It’s not often that I read a proposal for reforming the canon law of future conclaves that makes me sit up and go “that’s so crazy it might just work.” But I read one this week. The proposal came from Italian Church historial Alberto Melloni, who suggested that Pope Francis reduce the cardinal’s conclave voting schedule from four ballots a day to just one. I took a look at the arguments for the change in an analysis this week and, I have to say, I’m pretty much sold.
