Unborn Overshadowed

Multiple bishops have released statements of calls to prayer ahead of the court hearing Wednesday. But they come a little too late. Abortion still runs a Culture of Death because the bishops barely acknowledge we need to re-create a civilization of life. Church Militant’s Nadia Hazimeh explains how America’s prelates consistently fail to be forcefully pro-life.

Narration of Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.”

Annually, the USCCB holds a national collection to end domestic poverty. But there has never been a collection for the protection of the unborn.

Ironic, given the bishops’ claim that “the threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself.” This statement was voted on and written in 2019 for their Catholic voting guide Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.

A third of the bishops voted against keeping the amendment, with some having issue with the word “preeminent.”

Bishop Robert McElroy, Cdl. Blase Cupich and Bp. John Stowe opposed the verbiage. But standout bishop Joseph Strickland objected, insisting that “preeminent” remain in the document. Archbishop Charles Chaput supported him.

In addition to creating a voting guide, the USCCB created a video campaign in 2020 where each video glossed over protecting the unborn.

Abp. José Gómez: “We want to protect both the unborn and families in poverty. We advocate for the dignity of immigrants in need of welcome, to put an end to racism and to protect the religious freedom of all.”

Lumping the intrinsic evil of abortion in with debatable social justice issues like immigration is known as the “seamless garment theory.”

Cardinal Joseph Bernardin weakened the Church with this teaching. In the ’70s, he initiated the first social justice collection. And these videos prove his shadow still looms today. An ideology like this allows pro-abortion and fake-Catholic politicians like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi to run around unscathed by the bishops.

President Joe Biden: “I have been, and continue to be, a strong supporter of Roe v. Wade.”

The Biden administration sued the state of Texas over the pro-life Heartbeat Act.

Biden: “I know this sounds ridiculous — almost un-American — what we’re talking about.”

Almost none of the bishops speak out against these politicians, angering faithful Catholics and confusing those who are lukewarm.

During chapel prayers, Church Militant has added an additional Hail Mary for a special intention — the purification or eradication of the U.S. bishops’ conference.
