It was a busy weekend in Ottawa and elsewhere in Canada as thousands of citizens poured into the streets to protest fake Catholic Justin Trudeau’s COVID police state. Despite the additional arrests and threats, the spirit of our Canadian neighbors remains strong. Church Militant’s James Fedewa brings us up to speed on Canada’s Freedom Convoy weekend roundup.
Crowds in Quebec City braved near-zero temperatures over the weekend to protest tyranny, while Ottawa’s interim police chief announced criminal charges for some citizens.
Steve Bell, Interim Ottawa police chief: “They’ve been charged with multiple, various offenses, including mischief. Work is underway by the city of Ottawa to remediate and clean up the area that we’ve gained back today.”
Authorities made dozens of arrests Sunday, towed more trucks and pepper sprayed demonstrators who fear Canada is devolving into authoritarianism.
Todd Marazzo, Freedom Convoy organizer: “It’s a dark day in our history. Never in my life would I believe anyone if they told me that our prime minister would refuse dialogue and choose violence against peaceful protestors.”
The officers’ brutal tactics against peaceful Canadians are a surprising and horrifying sight for those living in a supposedly free country.
World leaders are condemning Prime Minister Trudeau, with Romanian politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Cristian Terhes commending the truckers and comparing Trudeau to a tyrannical dictator.
Cristian Terhes, Romanian MEP: “I hope this movement for freedom and for rights is spreading all around the world because, at the end of the day, we have to make sure that all these elected officials — they understand that they were elected in those offices to work for the people.”
Some of the truck drivers who initiated the protest have decided to go home and discern their next steps.
Marazzo: “We are simply peacefully withdrawing from this area because we don’t believe that there’s anything that can be gained by being a human punching bag for the police or being arrested or having property seized or destroyed.”
Others across Canada, however, are just getting started. Unfortunately, for those just joining the fray and even for the protestors who’ve disbanded and returned home, the fight is far from over.
Steve Bell: “If you are involved in this protest, we will actively look to identify you and follow up with financial sanctions and criminal charges, absolutely.”
Canadians are expressing dogged determination, even ignoring threats, to live out the old adage: Anything worth having is worth fighting for.
Banks have started freezing accounts of people connected to protests, and authorities have warned anyone who brings a minor to a protest could be fined up to $5,000 and spend up to five years in prison.
