Nearly 50 House Republicans joined the Left yesterday to pass a bill codifying so-called same-sex marriage. Of the GOP representatives who voted in favor of the Respect for Marriage Act, more than one-third consider themselves Catholic. Church Militant’s Kim Tisor has more on the bill and the politicians who supported it.
Fearing the demise of same-sex marriage following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, Democrats eagerly codified protections for gay and interracial couples — though the Supreme Court protected interracial marriage in the 1960s.
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.: “What we did in the House today is pass legislation that says, basically, regardless of what the Supreme Court may decide in the future, we want gay marriage and marriage equality, interracial marriage, to be the law of the land.”
Forty-seven Republicans joined Democrats in a vote of 276–157 to pass the Respect for Marriage Act. The vote repeals the Defense of Marriage Act that defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman and allowed individual states to not recognize same-sex marriages.
Helping to pass the woke legislation were 19 Catholic-in-name-only — or CINO — Republicans.
They include:
New York: Reps. Andrew Garbarino, Chris Jacobs, John Katko, Elise Stefanik
Ohio: Reps. David Joyce and Anthony Gonzalez
Florida: Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart and Carlos Giménez
Pennsylvania: Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick and Dan Meuser
Oregon: Rep. Cliff Bentz
Illinois: Rep. Rodney Davis
Minnesota: Rep. Tom Emmer
Texas: Rep. Tony Gonzales
Iowa: Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks
Wisconsin: Rep. Bryan Steil
California: Rep. David Valadao
New Jersey: Rep. Jeff Van Drew
Missouri: Rep. Ann Wagner
The next stop for the bill is the Senate, where its future is bleak. Ten Republicans would need to join Democrats and vote in favor of it before it could make its way to the desk of unelected Biden — another fake Catholic — who would undoubtedly support it.
Democrats Dianne Feinstein of California and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin introduced companion legislation in the Senate yesterday. They were joined by Republican Susan Collins of Maine — a phony Catholic and RINO (Republican in name only).
