Escalating Attacks on Poland

WARSAW, Poland (ChurchMilitant.com) – Poland’s prime minister is calling on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to help stay the influx of tens of thousands of migrants gathering at Poland’s eastern frontier.

Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki

Mateusz Morawiecki is calling on Poland, along with Latvia and Lithuania, to consider invoking Article 4 of the NATO treaty over the deepening crisis on the eastern flank.

Under Article 4 of the NATO treaty, any ally can request consultations “whenever, in the opinion of any of them, their territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the parties is threatened.”

“It is not enough just for us to publicly express our concern. Now we need concrete steps and the commitment of the entire alliance,” the Polish leader said over the weekend.

Morawiecki pointed out that Poland is protecting the whole EU, not only itself. He added it was clear that the whole bloc should contribute to the funding of an eastern border wall.

Crisis: Invasion of Illegals

Morawiecki’s call is triggered by ever-increasing numbers of mostly Middle Eastern and African migrants attempting to gain illegal entry into Poland at various points of its border with Belarus — with the assistance of Belarusian authorities.

Aerial footage provided by the Polish Ministry of Defense shows outnumbered Polish troops at junctures defending the border and illegal immigrants heading from Belarus towards the border accompanied by Belarusian officers. TV crews, including Russian ones, are in tow.

The ministry is posting regular updates of the escalation at key points along the border and reports regular sounds of shots being fired on the Belarusian side of the border.

Illegal immigrants have been gathering at the border crossing in Kuźnica since Monday morning. They are being joined by new groups to breach the border — all under the supervision of Belarusian services.

In this new kind of war, human misery is ammunition.

The Polish police released footage showing Belarusian forces constantly monitoring the people they have led to the Polish border, preventing them from returning to Belarus.

Belarusian military accompanying the migrants destroyed a temporary border barrier this weekend in Czeremcha. They were “tearing out fence posts and tearing up concertina wires with a service vehicle,” and Polish services were “blinded by laser beams and a flash tube,” the Polish Border Guard announced on social media.

Reporters at one confrontation site recorded migrants chanting “Germany, Germany, U.K., Germany, Germany” as their desired destination when asked “Where do you want to go?”

Pushing Migrants Back, Forward

Polish leaders are standing up for their republic by sending messages to the illegal migrants via social media.

“If you don’t want to be pushed back, if you don’t want to be arrested, if you don’t want to be shot, don’t come to our borders. Do not come to the Polish border. Then you’re safe,” Polish member of the European Parliament (MEP) Dominik Tarczyński tweeted. “It’s not us, it’s not our police who came up to beat you up, to push you or to arrest you. It’s you who tried to break the law on our land.”

Polish defenders are not unaware of the international intrigue making the mass migration materialize. Stanisław Żaryn, spokesperson of Poland’s Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, explained the migrants were told “dangerous lies.”

“The current attempt at mass illegal entry to Poland is the result of rumors spread among migrants, which were additionally authenticated by the Belarusian services,” Żaryn continued. “Migrants were lied to. They were convinced of the possibility of transport to Germany.”

The Times of the United Kingdom predicts more migrants will follow in the coming days, “shipped to Minsk with the regime’s promise of ‘package deals’ and then bussed to the border for a do-or-die attempt to reach western Europe via Poland.”

“In this new kind of war, human misery is ammunition,” the Times reported.

EU Playing Politics

Meanwhile, on Poland’s western side, the European Union (EU) is threatening Belarus with more sanctions and accusing its president, Alexander Lukashenko, of employing “gangster-style” methods to protest the EU’s original sanctions.

But the EU has dawdled in offering Poland no real help at the border, even refusing thus far to fund a border wall. Indeed, the EU passed a resolution to sanction Poland on its Independence Day for protecting unborn babies, a huge no-no for the abortion-obsessed EU.

The head of the Polish Law and Justice delegation in the European Parliament, Professor Ryszard Legutko, sees Poland’s status as “the last bastion of Christian values in Europe” key for understanding the EU’s restraint — and indeed outright hostility toward Poland — in defending it against the new invasion from the east.

On Poland’s western side, the EU is threatening Belarus with more sanctions.

“So far, Brussels has shown brutality in all its decisions related to the government in Warsaw and Poland in general,” Legutko recently observed.

The MEP noted that, led by Ursula von der Leyen, “the European Commission could do a lot useful in the matter of the [border] crisis if it only wanted to get involved.”

“The problem is that Brussels is not doing anything for free, and we don’t want her [von der Leyen] to say to us: ‘You have our help, but now you have to listen to us.’ In other words, we do not believe in the sincere and noble intentions of the EU,” the MEP explained.

All is not quiet on the eastern front. And Poland is caught once again — as it has been so many times in history — between a rock and a hard place with its patriots fighting mightily.
