Christ Jesus Manifests His divinity in His miracles
From the beginning of His public life, Christ Jesus applied to Himself Isaiah’s prophecy proclaiming that “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me. Wherefore He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor …to preach deliverance to the captives, and sight to the blind… to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of reward (Luke 4:18-19). He is, then, the One sent, God’s Legate Who proves, by miracles wrought by His own authority, the divinity of His mission, of His work, and Person. Thus we hear the multitude, after the miracle of the multiplication of loaves, cry out : “This is of a truth the prophet, that is to come into the world.”
Nothing seduces our poor heart so much as to contemplate Christ Jesus, true God as well as true man, translating eternal goodness into human gestures. When we see Him spreading in profusion around Him inexhaustible treasures of compassion, inexhaustible riches of mercy, we can conceive somewhat of the infinity of this ocean of divine goodness from which will draw holy humanity for us.
And let us never forget that even then, when He bends down towards us, Christ Jesus remains God’s own Son, God Himself, the Almighty Being, the infinite Wisdom who, fixing all things in truth, does not execute anything that is not supremely perfect.
This achieves the captivation of our souls, by manifesting to us the profound charms of the heart of our Christ, of our God.
