Yesterday’s Jan. 6 anniversary was marked with a solemn, day-long string of remembrance ceremonies worthy of a statesman’s funeral. Church Militant’s Nadia Hazimeh has more on the political hype from the day’s events.
Politicians on both sides of the aisle would have you believe the Jan. 6 riots surpassed the horrors of Pearl Harbor and 9/11.
President Joe Biden: “This was an armed insurrection!”
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas: “It is an anniversary of a violent, terrorist attack on the Capitol.”
But it wasn’t an insurrection (a legal term that doesn’t apply) or a terrorist attack. Tucker Carlson forced Sen. Cruz to eat crow over his faulty description of the Jan. 6 events — because words matter.
Sen. Cruz: “The way I phrased things yesterday — it was sloppy, and it was, frankly, dumb.”
But focusing on the Democrats: Why are they intent on pushing such hype?
John Davidson, senior editor, The Federalist:
I think it’s a sign of desperation; this is all they’ve got. They can’t, you know, run on the Biden administration accomplishments. They can’t run on the legislative agenda, which has been a complete dumpster fire. They can’t run on the popularity of the party or of Congress, or the president. So this is the best they’ve got.
With Biden’s disapproval rating at an all-time high, it’s clear the Left is grasping at straws. They’re engaging in political theater to deflect voters’ attention from Biden’s ineptitude, with the hope of weakening the “red wave” political analysts predict is coming this November.
Last night, Sen. Cruz rolled back his original statement on Jan. 6 with a tweet, saying he wasn’t calling peaceful protesters “terrorists” but was referring to those who assaulted police officers. He apologized for the misunderstanding.
