Immigration Tsunami Imminent

TRANSCRIPT

Since the Reagan years, illegal immigration has been a hot-button issue. The end of the CDC’s Title 42 order in May brings the border crisis back to the headlines and politicians back to the microphones.

In tonight’s In-Depth Report, Church Militant’s Kristine Christlieb focuses on the coming immigrant tsunami.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.: “Do you believe the Biden immigration policies are successful?”

Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary, Department of Homeland Security: “Senator, I think rebuilding a broken immigration system and rebuilding a dismantled one takes time, and we’re on the road to success.”

Graham: “So you think we’re on the right track as a nation?’

Mayorkas: “I do.”

For Republicans and, now, Democrats, worried about the end of the Title 42 border barrier and the possibility of a flood of new immigrants, the Biden administration’s secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, has a plan. Or does he?

Breitbart, on Monday, broke open fake-Catholic Mayorkas’ 115-page “plan” and found it acknowledges “the end of Title 42 will result in a surge in illegal immigration on the southwest border,” “most released migrants do not appear for subsequent removal proceedings” and “other options for immigrant removal are limited.”

The Title 42 order was a public-health measure enacted in March 2020 to limit the spread of COVID-19 and allow for the immediate expulsion of migrants. Migrants are already marching to the U.S. border in anticipation of the order’s expiration.

Even among Democrats, there is widespread concern.

Senator Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.:

That’s why last week I called and spoke directly with Secretary Mayorkas. I told him that I intend to hold a hearing in my committee in the next two weeks and that I’ve asked him to bring his folks from the Department of Homeland Security to explain how they are going to implement a fair, humane and orderly process.

But the plan includes great news for the U.S. Catholic bishops and their NGO, Catholic Charities, which will cash in. The plan says “NGOs … will provide life-sustaining food, shelter and supporting services.”

Catholic Charities is a leading proponent of open-border policy and has fully engaged its resources on the Southwest border, enabling mass migrant surges.

Bp. Mark Seitz, diocese of El Paso, Texas: “Here at the border, and in every place of encounter with those on the margins, God is calling us to be a ‘bridge people.'”

The Title 42 order was not meant to last forever. But without it, America will have to solve the border crisis another way, perhaps by enforcing the laws already on the books.

In 2018, the most recent figures we have suggested that 40% of the USCCB’s total budget was underwritten by taxpayer dollars, almost exclusively for immigration services.
