In tonight’s In-Depth Report, Church Militant’s Kristine Christlieb takes us to Los Angeles, where “California dreamin'” has turned into a California nightmare.
Bob Ryan, father of murder victim: “Never in history have I ever heard of — and I’ve never talked to anybody that has heard of — a prosecuting attorney that aids the defense. Gascon is aiding the defense. He’s the best public defender there is right now.”
Los Angeles has fallen into the hands of two notorious elected officials — Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. District Attorney George Gascon. On their watch, crime has surged.
L.A. Fox 11 News anchor: “A frightening crime wave has swept over West Hollywood. The numbers staggering even for those in law enforcement — from burglaries to arson to human trafficking, according to the latest stats; it’s an incomprehensible 137% jump.”
Victims across the city are crying out for justice. Bob Ryan’s son is one of those victims.
Ryan: “On Dec. 11, 2017, Bobby had sold his car, and so he had $4,000 cash in his wallet.”
On that Monday in 2017, Bobby Ryan grabbed his buddy and met up with his drug dealer, Raymond Gonzales. Ryan wasn’t perfect; he had a drug habit. But what was worse, Gonzales was a gang member whose street name was “Danger.”
As soon as Ryan opened his wallet and Gonzales saw the cash, he was a dead man. Gonzales shot Ryan multiple times in the torso and once in the head; he also shot Ryan’s buddy, Jacob Dominguez, in the head. After murdering the two men, Gonzales carjacked a van, threw their bodies in the back and dumped them in the desert.
At the time of the murder. Los Angeles’ district attorney Jackie Lacey told Ryan’s father that Gonzalez would get the death penalty. But then Newsom became governor. Sixty days after assuming office, he announced a new policy.
California governor Gavin Newsom: “Why I moved forward just moments ago with an executive order advancing a moratorium on the death penalty in California.”
A year later, George Soros–backed Gascon was elected district attorney, taking responsibility for prosecuting the case.
The very day he assumed office, he too announced radical changes.
Christina Pascucci, journalist, KTLA5: “Here’s a list of other changes. No. 4 is huge. Gascon no longer seeking enhancements to crimes, like gang affiliation; that could take years off a person’s sentence and will be applied retroactively.”
Removing enhancements meant Gonzales might not even get a life sentence.
Kathy Cady, victims’ rights attorney: “I’ve represented a number of other murder victims’ families, and what I can tell you is that, to a person, they are really devastated by Gascon and his policies.”
And this case is just the tip of the iceberg. Los Angeles has turned into Gotham City, where the villains are in the governor’s mansion and the district attorney’s office.
A Los Angeles media outlet is reporting the Gascon recall effort is on track to make it onto the ballot.
