LA Dodgers Will Honor ‘Drag Nuns’ on the Feast of the Sacred Heart

LOS ANGELES (Churchmilitant.com) – The Los Angeles Dodgers will publicly honor and celebrate an anti-Catholic drag group on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Major League Baseball team announced yesterday that it is reinviting the “Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence,” whose official motto is “Go forth and sin some more,” to its June 16 “Pride Night” event.

Initially, the Dodgers had invited the controversial group to participate but uninvited the “drag nuns” on May 18 after massive backlash. But as of Monday night, the Dodgers have now reversed their decision, apologized to the so-called LGBT community and extended a new invitation to the group.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence identifies itself as “a leading-edge Order of queer and trans nuns” who “use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.”

The Dodgers’ decision to honor this group on what they refer to as “Pride Night” coincides with the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a significant day for Catholics. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is “the chief sign and symbol” of the “love with which the divine Redeemer continually loves the eternal Father and all human beings.”

It coincides with the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Despite the Dodgers’ endorsement of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, several Christian members of the team, including Clayton Kershaw, Blake Treinen and manager Dave Roberts, have so far chosen to remain silent on the matter. These individuals have previously identified themselves as Christians and have expressed their beliefs in various interviews.

Kershaw is a self-professed Christian who, in speaking about his beliefs in 2017, declared, “We’re supposed to follow Jesus and have people see how we live our lives.” Treinen, in 2020, described himself as a “Christian athlete.”

The manager of the Dodgers, Dave Roberts, also claims to be a Christian. He announced in 2020, “There’s no question that I’m a believer. I can quite honestly say I live that the way I should, and I’m bold about that. … I think that people see Christ through me, and that’s sort of what we want to create in the clubhouse.”

Kershaw is widely recognized as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the MLB, Treinen is a World Series champion and an MLB all-star, and Roberts is the leader of the entire Dodgers team. All three are self-professed Christians, and all three have so far remained publicly silent about their organization’s endorsement of blasphemy, sacrilege and anti-Christian bigotry.

To see the emotion in Dave Roberts as he’s telling Clayton Kersh how happy he is for him man that got me tearing up all over again.

In the team’s announcement, the Dodgers also expressed gratitude for the anti-Catholic group, claiming that for decades it has been doing “lifesaving work.”

The Dodgers’ decision to disinvite the drag group last week came just days after Florida’s Sen. Marco Rubio and various Catholic groups voiced their outrage.

After yesterday’s announcement, in which the Dodgers walked back its decision by apologizing and reinviting the anti-Catholic “drag nuns,” Rubio took to Twitter, saying, “Today our great country is controlled by socio-political ruling elites who don’t just tolerate anti-Christian bigotry, they encourage & celebrate it.”

Shamefully, (but not surprisingly) the @dodgers have been bullied into apologizing to & “re-inviting” a group of anti-catholic bigots

Church Militant theological analyst Dr. William Mahoney states about this situation:

The contrast between the Dodgers’ ‘Pride Night’ and the Feast of the Sacred Heart could not be starker in every possible way. Pride is the first and deadliest of all sins — the gateway to every possible moral evil. It is pride that transforms angels into demons and men into monsters. Ironically, the “guilt that chain[s] the human spirit,” of which the so-called Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence speak, is the very chain the Incarnate Word came to break for fallen humanity by his life, death, Resurrection and Ascension into Heaven. The Second Person of the Holy Trinity assumed a human heart, His Sacred Heart, by an ineffable act of self-emptying of which no merely human person is capable. The Sacred Heart is the very symbol and reality of Jesus’ inimitable humility, which breaks the folly of fallen humanity’s pride and frees those who love Him from the chains of guilt that tether one to the pits of Hell.

Neither Abp. Jose Gómez nor any representative from the archdiocese of Los Angeles has responded to the Dodgers’ actions.
