California Catholics are gathering in Los Angeles this weekend for the yearly LA REC. It’s a Church-of-Nice-promoted congress featuring heterodox speakers and gross liturgical abuse. In tonight’s In-Depth Report, Church Militant’s Kristine Christlieb breaks down what’s scheduled for this year’s event.
The Religious Education Congress, or LA REC, debuted in 1956. Every March, 40,000 people fill the Anaheim Convention Center in southern California.
This year’s congress will be different, allowing only 5,000 in-person participants. Each must wear a mask and show proof they have received the jab. All others join virtually, like last year during the so-called pandemic.
The LA REC features a who’s who of heterodox Catholic personalities.
Jesuit sodomy apologist James Martin is one. He is scheduled to host a virtual workshop: “Where Do We Go from Here? Next Steps in LGBTQ Ministry.”
And there’s Franciscan Daniel Horan. Horan’s workshop is titled “What We Have Done and Failed to Do: Catholic Responses to Systematic Racism.”
Bishop Robert Barron will speak on more theological topics, like exploring the relationship between faith and science, and give the talk “Looking at the Cross of Jesus with Fresh Eyes.”
The big topic this year is immigration. Featured on this year’s roster is Sr. Norma Pimentel, the executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.
Pimentel gained notoriety by working with the Biden administration to traffic illegal immigrants across the U.S.-Mexico border.
But despite aiding in human trafficking, Pimentel is one of this year’s guests of honor.
Another featured guest: Bp. Mark Seitz of El Paso, Texas. Seitz pushes open borders, climate change and is a supporter of the Marxist organization Black Lives Matter.
And the usual liturgical abuse will be on full display. Previous years have shown egregious abuses during Mass — including liturgical dancing and an excessive focus on man rather than God.
Amidst all the clamor on social justice topics, the REC has no room for serious moral issues like the raging porn epidemic or the increasing normalization of the slaughter of the unborn.
And just like last year, Pope Francis is scheduled to give a brief talk from Rome, with a blessing for the event.
