The Windy City cardinal and the Prairie State governor love to fawn over one another. Using the Freedom of Information Act, the Chicago Sun-Times published text messages and emails the two exchanged in 2020 during Illinois’ extreme lockdown lunacy. Church Militant’s William Mahoney looks at the cardinal and governor’s digital hugs and detestable hypocrisy.

Messages between Chicago’s cardinal, Blase Cupich, and Illinois’ governor, J.B. Pritzker, show reciprocal sycophancy and common devotion to draconian restrictions. In one exchange, Cupich forwarded a copy of his archdiocesan policies to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Those policies included no public liturgies or sacraments and social distancing and mask wearing for livestreamed Masses. Within eight minutes, Pritzker responded, “I love this. Thank you, Your Eminence. You are saving lives. Bless you.”

How these measures saved lives is unclear. What are clear are the Illinois Department of Public Health’s abortion statistics for 2020. While Cupich and Pritzker were exchanging pleasantries that year, 46,243 unborn children were mercilessly put to death in Illinois.

Cupich remained silent and never once called out Pritzker for being one of the most extreme pro-abortion politicians in the country. That silence is something Catholics noticed, as shown at a recent pro-life rally.

In another exchange between the prelate and politician, Cupich informed Pritzker he was defending the governor on social media. “Governor, I’m tweeting this out,” Cupich texted. The tweet reads, “We support Gov. Pritzker’s efforts to save precious human lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and condemn strongly any comparison of these measures with the murderous Nazi regime. Hate has no home here.”

Comments on the tweet show approval for Cupich from an individual called “The Gnostic” and mostly disapproval from everybody else. Others tweeted:

“Hate has a home here. You gave it one … “
“Stop pretending you’re Catholic, Blaisey”

It seems the Church’s enemies are Cupich’s friends and the Church’s friends are his enemies.
