Mexico City: National Pilgrimage in Honor of Christ the King

After a year of absence due to the health measures caused by COVID-19, the annual pilgrimage in honor of Christ the King took place on Sunday, October 31, 2021.

1,600 faithful from all the priories of Mexico, 12 priests, several seminarians and 5 Oblate sisters left from the Plaza de Santo Domingo, in the center of the city, to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, covering nearly 10 km, and braving the usual Mexico City traffic and the midday sun, to publicly proclaim the kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

After a visit to Our Lady of Tepeyac, the pilgrims went to the Mínimas Franciscans Convent and to the Institute of Venerable Fr. Juan González, to assist at the Holy Mass, at the end of which they took refreshments and a well deserved rest.

500 years have passed since the end of the Spanish conquest of the territories of ancient Tenochtitlan, when, by the grace of God, the Cross of Jesus Christ was established in all levels and spheres of society.

From this Cross, which the society of New Spain saw erected each day on the altars of so many churches, chapels, and even cathedrals, she obtained abundant graces for her enthusiasm in the struggle to snatch heaven.

It was the beginning of the redemption of an ancient society which, although structured socially, politically, and religiously – it even possessed the notion of sacrifice, although corrupted – was lost, far from the truth and without the knowledge of the doctrine revealed by the Son of God.

However, the edifice of this society, which persevered and remained unsullied by formal heresies for some 300 years, had been undermined in its security, walls and structures by the partisans of error, who have become the enemies of the Church, and therefore of Christian society.

They abolished the laws of the Catholic government by replacing them with arbitrary and scandalous measures rigorously applied and which have repercussions in the current laws, totally opposed to those of God.

Secular education, expropriation of ecclesiastical property, religious persecution, usurpation of the Spanish monarchy by different forms of political organization had only one thing in common: the struggle against the reign of God by a total opposition to the reign of Christ the King.

“Thou sayest that I am a king. For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice” (Jn. 18:37). These words of Jesus Christ remind us of His kingship. He is King of all creation, although modern governments deny it.

This was the purpose of the pilgrimage: to exalt Christ the King with the Virgin Mary, as well as our Catholic Faith, by recognizing that His Kingdom is indeed there.

The foundation of New Spain, present-day Mexico, is Our Lady of Guadalupe, mother of Christ and our mother. She is the mystical founder of this great city. Faithful souls turned to her after the solemn declaration of this social and universal reign.

¡Viva Cristo Rey!

¡Viva Santa María de Guadalupe!

¡Viva el México católico!

With the hearts of the faithful fixed on the duty to transmit what they have received and to become children again to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, the Society of Saint Pius X organized its 34th annual pilgrimage in honor of Christ the King on October 31, 2021 in Mexico City.
