Terrified the U.S. Supreme Court might overturn Roe v. Wade, New Jersey Democrats have enshrined child killing into state law. The radical abortion legislation, which was signed into law Thursday by the Garden State’s fake-Catholic governor, was introduced earlier this month. And the state’s bishops put up almost no resistance. Church Militant’s William Mahoney has more on the law and the prelates’ last-minute statement.

New Jersey governor Phil Murphy signed the so-called Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act.

The law allows abortion for all nine months of the child’s development for any reason and permits lots of people other than doctors, such as advanced-practice nurses and even midwives, to kill unborn children.

Gov. Phil Murphy, D-N.J.: “To be sure, I have leaned on my faith to inform and enhance many of my most deeply held values, and, as I said, this one has been a hard one for me.”

What’s more, the new abortion law forces insurance companies to cover birth control and lays a foundation for forcing insurance providers to cover abortion down the road.

New Jersey’s bishop conference offered virtually no resistance, publishing a three-paragraph statement Tuesday.

In the bishops’ statement, the prelates shed crocodile tears, claiming, “We have failed as a society when a response to any pregnancy is fear rather than joy.”

Maria Woltornist, Fasting Army for Priests:

The letter was lame. And where was the call from the bishops to have all their priests speak about it every day? … Why are we not going to battle with the weapon, which is the Rosary? And why aren’t these — Gov. Murphy — and these other Catholics who voted for this excommunicated?

Faithful New Jersey Catholics are disappointed, but not surprised. They note Newark’s pro-gay archbishop, Cdl. Joseph Tobin, has a record of being far more concerned with LGBT topics than the murder of unborn children.

While the Garden State bishops are quick to blame society for failing on abortion, they neglect to mention their own failure to lead their flocks against the intrinsically wicked practice.

Neighboring Tobin in Newark is pro-gay bishop James Checchio in Metuchen, where disgraced homosexual pederast Theodore McCarrick got his start.
