Every year, dozens of parishes around the Archdiocese of Los Angeles host celebrations marking Simbang Gabi, a Filipino tradition which celebrates the nine days leading up to Christmas with the celebration of the Mass, novenas, and food.
This year, the celebration begins on Dec. 15 in a Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The Mass will commemorate two landmark events for Filipino Catholics in the archdiocese — the 500th anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines and the 250th jubilee of the Catholic faith in Los Angeles. This year’s Simbang Gabi theme, “Gifted to Share the Light of Christ,” highlights these important gifts for Filipino Catholics.
