Order. Discipline. Brotherhood. Greatness.

Thursday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time

The working of the Holy Spirit is powerful in things both great and small. It knows no boundaries, no limitations. There is no sin too great to prevent its working and there is no task too small for its greatness. No relationship is beyond repair and no life beyond redemption. The Son of Man in his day will be like lightning that flashes from one end of the sky to the other. That day is yet in the future but it is also today. Jesus says: “The reign of God is already in your midst.” Jesus also says “Nothing is impossible with God.” And he says: “The Father knows how to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask.”

This gift, this power, is intended for all of us today. Do we make excuses for not getting serious about following Jesus? Do we, each day, really ask to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, are we secretly afraid that we will have to change our lives too much if we invite him into our hearts?

Let us be courageous enough to step out and boldly fellow Christ today and every day of our lives. He will totally change our lives and change it for the better. Such openness to change takes courage. Are we willing to take this risk?
