Geneva (KNA): United Nations aid organisations will present this year’s aid programme for Ukraine and war refugees in neighbouring countries on Monday. This was announced by a spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva on Tuesday. It is expected that more than 14.6 million people in Ukraine, 40 per cent of the population, will be dependent on humanitarian aid in the coming months. Around 6.3 million have fled abroad.

Civilians are being killed and injured every day and homes and vital infrastructure are being destroyed, said OCHA deputy spokesperson Jens Laerke. Added to this is a harsh winter in Ukraine. An ongoing large-scale humanitarian operation is now as urgent as ever.

According to the press release, OCHA head Martin Griffiths and UN Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi want to explain the plans to alleviate the suffering. The presentation in Geneva will also be attended by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk and representatives of aid organisations from Ukraine and Poland.
