Man at airport: “Being able to breathe the fresh air on a plane — it’s so freeing.”
A judge has struck down the federal mask mandate for public transport, and most people are rejoicing. But as Church Militant’s Paul Murano illustrates, while the mask is coming off, there is also some anger among the revelry.
Florida federal judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, a Trump appointee, voided, on Monday, the nation’s face-diapering mandate for public transportation.
Airplane pilot: “Will no longer enforce the federal mandate requiring masks in all U.S. airports and non-foreign aircraft.”
People around the country are now breathing easier.
Murray Tarter, member, Atlanta Resistance: “I was happy when I heard this morning the mandate had been lifted. The CDC overextended their boundaries by quite a bit in the first place.”
Most people think masking should have been optional in the first place.
Mike Snozek, member, Phoenix Resistance: “It was pretty rough, especially for people with kids. It ended up being pretty bad on travel. I’m really glad that she had the opportunity, the judge, to see and to set this correctly.”
Not everyone, however, is rejoicing.
Jen Psaki, White House press secretary: “This is obviously a disappointing decision.”
In fact, some are seething.
Sunny Hostin, co-host, The View: “I don’t want to get on a plane with super-spreaders. I don’t want to get on a plane with 214 other people that are going to be breathing on me with their COVID breath. I don’t want it!”
Many mandate supporters have taken to the national outlet for outrage — Twitter. How masking has become an ideological and political issue is a mystery.
Psaki: “The CDC continues recommending wearing masks on public transit.”
What is clear is that most of America’s travelers are relieved.
Despite the ruling, some state and local transit agencies may keep their mandates in place. The Biden team has not yet decided on any further moves to reinstate the restriction.
